On Fridays and Saturdays, visitors to Governors

Historic District for self-touring (self-touring
guides will be available for free at the visitors
center on Governors Island). Areas for self-touring
include the historic Parade Grounds, for picnicking
and recreation; the western Esplanade, which offers
some of the most dramatic views of New York Harbor,
from the Statue of Liberty up towards the Brooklyn
Bridge; and the Colonels’ Row triangle, a park area
between the mansions of Colonels’ Row and the
majestic Liggett Hall, which offers a wonderful,
tree-lined respite from the hustle and bustle of
city living. There will be limited guided tours of
the Historic District available with Rangers from
the National Park Service on these days.
GIPEC and NPS have developed a calendar of
activities specifically for Saturdays that will
enhance the park experience for visitors during this
period. Click here
