There was a lot to love about 2008 on Governors Island. Bike and Roll opened a bike rental kiosk and Transportation Alternatives sponsored Free Bike Fridays; we had more great art, entertainment, science and recreational programs; we read a lot of nice things about Governors Island in the papers; we released Requests for Proposals for a new art studio program and a food/entertainment venue; and we started tearing down buildings and planning a new park and Great Promenade. There were more firsts and favorites than fit in a top-10 list, so we put together a gallery of a few of the great things that happened on Governors Island in 2008. The best thing about 2008, of course, was that a record number of people came to Governors Island from all over and had a great time. Have a happy and safe New Year! [gallery]
