Public Art

Trans­for­ma­tive pub­lic art is deeply root­ed in Gov­er­nors Island’s DNA. Through the Trust for Gov­er­nors Island’s com­mis­sion­ing pro­gram, we present pub­lic art projects that: 

  • Range in scale from mon­u­men­tal to intimate 
  • Direct­ly engage with the Har­bor and the water­front, pro­vide moments of sur­prise with­in expan­sive, landscapes 
  • Present new expe­ri­ences with­in his­toric architectures
  • Allow for pro­longed and immer­sive explo­ration and discovery 

The Island is home to site-spe­cif­ic, long-term art­works with­in our new park and his­toric land­scapes. Our pro­gram offers the oppor­tu­ni­ty for artists and audi­ences to engage in site-spe­cif­ic projects respond­ing to the Island’s unique con­di­tions.
