Picnic Point! A few months ago, we asked you for suggestions on what to name a fabulous new open space on Governors Island. We had many fantastic suggestions and we are grateful for all of the wonderful ideas we received. Ryan Russo, of Brooklyn, suggested Picnic Point, and we thought the name captured the spirit of the space perfectly. Picnic Point is a brand new eight acre space on Governors Island’s southwestern shore. Last fall, we demolished ten old (but not historic) apartment buildings there to create a new signature space for all our visitors to enjoy. This summer, for the first time, you will be able to walk or bike to Picnic Point to relax, enjoy unparalleled views of the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor, and of course, picnic! We hope to see you on the Island so you can experience this unique and incredible place for yourselves.
