Ball­fields, Babe Ruth, and the World Cup!

Base­ball sea­son is in full swing on Gov­er­nors Island. Image cour­tesy of The Trust.[/caption] It is lit­tle won­der that base­ball thrives on Gov­er­nors Island. We recent­ly learned that the great Bam­bi­no trod on Gov­er­nors Island 87 years ago. The Sul­tan of Swat came to the Island to raise moral for those sta­tioned on the Island and to teach the art of hit­ting home runs to sev­er­al of the the army school chil­dren. [cap­tion id=“attachment_7672” align=“aligncenter” width=“468”]Babe Ruth visits Governors Island. The ball­fields are sized for Lit­tle League base­ball or adult soft­ball. The out­fields of these fields can also be used for soc­cer or oth­er field sports. Fields are open when the Island is open to the pub­lic. Spon­ta­neous Inter­ven­tions and The Gov­er­nors Beach Club will be joint­ly screen­ing the World Cup on Gov­er­nors Island! Dur­ing the week, watch the games at the Gov­er­nors Beach Club (next to Sois­sons Land­ing).
