These buildings are not located in the Historic District and are slated for future demolition. FDNY has run drills on Governors Island in the past. In February of 2008, they tested new high rise firefighting apparatus in non-historic high rise buildings, also located on the southern portion of the Island. The work they are doing this week will help FDNY more effectively fight residential fires throughout New York City.
