FDNY Performs Drills in Non Historic Coast Guard Era Buildings on Governors Island

Brick Village, Coast Guard era housing that was built on the southern side of Governors Island in the 1980’s, is the site of FDNY drills this week.[/caption] Governors Island is hosting FDNY this week as they perform drills in Brick Village, a group of non-historic, low rise brick structures that housed members of the Coast Guard and were built in the 1980’s. These buildings are not located in the Historic District and are slated for future demolition. FDNY has run drills on Governors Island in the past. In February of 2008, they tested new high rise firefighting apparatus in non-historic high rise buildings, also located on the southern portion of the Island. The work they are doing this week will help FDNY more effectively fight residential fires throughout New York City.
