After a bountiful season of growth this year, Added Value is celebrating the close of the 2010 season of Public Programs at Governors Island by kicking off their week long Harvest Festival with a Food Flotilla. On Saturday, they will join the Red Hook Boaters in this effort. Boaters will launch from Valentino Pier, cross Buttermilk Channel and land on Governors Island. There they will meet Added Value’s farmers who will have harvested vegetables and flowers from the Farm at Governors Island. They will lash the harvest baskets onto their kayaks and transport it back to Red Hook, where Added Value is based. Depending on wind and currents, the boaters will leave Red Hook around 11am, arrive on the Island soon after noon to load up the boats, depart around 1pm, and arrive back in Red Hook round about 2 pm. Come out and celebrate Added Value, the Farm at Governors Island, and this year’s harvest.
