On Sunday, July 4, there are two free concerts on Governors Island. Rosanne Cash will play a free show in Colonels Row and Water Taxi Beach will host She & Him. On Fourth of July weekend, Governors Island is open from 10AM to 5PM on Friday and 10AM – 7PM on Saturday and Sunday. Fourth of July fireworks are not visible from Governors Island due to their location. On the fourth, Rosanne Cash, daughter of legendary singer/songwriter Johnny Cash, will perform in a free concert presented by Trinity Wall Street. The concert will run from 2PM – 4PM and will be held on Colonels Row. Lawn seating is available at this show and visitors are welcome to bring their own chairs and blankets. Colonels Row provides many acres of open green space for all Governors Island visitors to enjoy the concert. The concert begins at 4PM but visitors are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the beach before the show. Capacity of the venue is limited to 3,500 and visitors will be admitted on a first come, first served basis. The concert runs from 4PM – 6PM. Governors Island closes at 7PM on July 4. Water Taxi Beach will remain open for a show with Victor Calderone but that is the only area of the Island that will be open after 7PM. Tickets are required for that show. So come out during the day on July 4 to celebrate Independence Day with biking, picnics and free afternoon concerts.
