Good­bye Lib­er­ty. Hel­lo Liberty!

Just a lit­tle over a month after May­or Bloomberg waived an orange flag to sig­nal the start of demo­li­tion, Lib­er­ty Vil­lage on Gov­er­nors Island’s south­ern tip is gone. The 8 acres of new open space and esplanade lib­er­at­ed by the demoltion is part of the the 40 acre park and 2.2 mile Great Prom­e­nade being planned by GIPEC and West 8. But by next sum­mer, the area will become a tem­po­rary pic­nic and play area with stun­ning views of New York Har­bor and the Stat­ue of Lib­er­ty. In oth­er words, dare we say, we’re get­ting ready for the GREAT­EST (tem­po­rary) PIC­NIC AND PLAY AREA ON EARTH.
