Jazz Age Return­ing to Gov­er­nors Island this Weekend

This week­end on Gov­er­nors Island we’re host­ing the 3rd annu­al Jazz-Age Lawn Par­ty and Fes­ti­val, pre­sent­ed by Michael Arenel­la and his Dream­land Orches­tra. It’s tons of fun and folks get real­ly into it: peo­ple dress up in flap­per garb, come to lis­ten to big band music, dance, and pic­nic. Bill Cun­ning­ham of the New York Times takes amaz­ing pic­tures of the all the swells in their glad rags” every year. And as we dis­cov­ered in the New York Times Style Sec­tion last fall, some­times peo­ple even fall in love. In addtion to the big band sound of the Dream­land Orches­tra, there will be oth­er music, games and con­tests for all ages. Click here for a com­plete sched­ule. Some highlights: 
  • 1920s Motor­car Exhi­bi­tion — lucky game win­ners will get a spin around the island in a gen­uine rum­ble­seat; hold on to your hat!
  • A Scan­de­lous Bathing Beau­ties and Gents Vin­tage Swim­suit Parade! (Sun­day Only)
  • Vin­tage hat and cloth­ing fair with vin­tage cloth­ing deal­ers and bou­tique milliners (there’s no atm here-so be sure to tuck some let­tuce into your garter!)
  • Horse­shoe Toss, Tug O’ War, Cro­quet games host­ed by The New York Cro­quet Club
  • Pie Recipe Con­test (Sat­ur­day Only)
