Jazz Age Returning to Governors Island this Weekend
Jun 6, 2008 12:00 pm
This weekend on Governors Island we’re hosting the 3rd annual Jazz-Age Lawn Party and Festival, presented by Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra. It’s tons of fun and folks get really into it: people dress up in flapper garb, come to listen to big band music, dance, and picnic. Bill Cunningham of the New York Times takes amazing pictures of the all the swells in their “glad rags” every year. And as we discovered in the New York Times Style Section last fall, sometimes people even fall in love. In addtion to the big band sound of the Dreamland Orchestra, there will be other music, games and contests for all ages. Click here for a complete schedule. Some highlights:- 1920s Motorcar Exhibition — lucky game winners will get a spin around the island in a genuine rumbleseat; hold on to your hat!
- A Scandelous Bathing Beauties and Gents Vintage Swimsuit Parade! (Sunday Only)
