Other events this weekend include: 4 Heads Art Fair, Weekends in September, All Day, Building 111, Colonels Row and Nolan Park Indulge your curiosity by exploring the abandoned military barracks of Governors Island Art Fair, 100 singular rooms of painting, photography, sculpture, installation, video, sound and performance art. Run by artists, for artists, New York’s largest independent exhibition enters its 6th year this fall. Once again GIAF organizers, 4heads, have sifted through a sea of creative proposals from New York and around the world, giving 100 of the best a full room each, in which to wreak havoc as they see fit. 4heads’ programs are tailored to serve the under-resourced, attracting hidden culture and fostering community through collaborative expression. ArtShare for HeartShare, Weekends in September, 11:30 am to 5:30 pm, Building 15 This exhibition showcases the talents and creative abilities of artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The ArtShare for HeartShare program is available to artists in HeartShare Human Services of New York’s developmental disabilities program. Participants in the program are supported in their creative endeavors by volunteer artists in residence and a dedicated committee throughout the year. This is the second year that ArtShare for HeartShare will be exhibiting on Governors Island. Fête Paradiso, 10:30 pm to 6:30 pm, Nolan Park For the first time in the US, a spectacular collection of vintage French carnival rides is open to the public here on Governors Island! The Parisian experience is free to visitors both young and old at this magnifique fairground festival complete with French music and cuisine! Remember, the East River Ferry is a great way to get from Queens, Brooklyn and Midtown to Governors Island. Check the full schedule to plan your next trip! Free Kayaking, Saturday, 10 am to 3 pm, Pier 101 Brought to you by the Downtown Boathouse, enjoy some fun time out on the water with this summery activity featuring beautiful views of New York Harbor! See the Park in Progress at the Viewing Platform @ Liggett Arch! Saturday and Sunday, All Day Head to Liggett Arch to see the new park that is under construction. Construction on the 30 acre park including Liggett Terrace, Hammock Grove and the Play Lawn will be complete this fall. Get a great view of all that is happening!
