Kick­start Your Event on Gov­er­nors Island!

Pho­to: Ron­ay Menschel.[/caption] Gov­er­nors Island wel­comes all kinds of cre­ative and unique exhi­bi­tions, fes­ti­vals and expe­ri­ences for our vis­i­tors each sea­son. To help expand the projects on Gov­er­nors Island for the 2013 sea­son and beyond, we are so excit­ed to be join­ing forces with Kick­starter! On Tues­day April 16th, we will be host­ing a lit­tle shin-dig with Kick­starter and FIG­MENT on how you can use Kick­starter to bring your project to Gov­er­nors Island. Kickstarter’s Art Pro­gram Direc­tor Stephanie Pereira will give a primer on how to bring a Kick­starter project to life. Lyn­da Real­mu­to, the Direc­tor of Spe­cial Events and Pub­lic Pro­grams at the Trust for Gov­er­nors Island, will be join­ing her to dis­cuss per­mits, logis­tics, spaces, and every­thing you need to know to bring your plan to the Island — how­ev­er it is fund­ed. David Koren, Exec­u­tive Direc­tor of Fig­ment will dive deep into how he used Kick­starter to launch an art fes­ti­val on Gov­er­nors Island each June. Every week, tens of thou­sands of peo­ple pledge mil­lions of dol­lars to projects from the worlds of music, film, art, tech­nol­o­gy, design, games, fash­ion, food, pub­lish­ing, and oth­er cre­ative fields. Since April 2009, more than three mil­lion peo­ple have pledged more than $400 mil­lion to projects by cre­ators who always main­tain full own­er­ship and com­plete cre­ative con­trol of their work.  Gov­er­nors Island is thrilled to have host­ed dozens of orga­ni­za­tions that bring pigs, uni­cy­cles, tree hous­es, math, art, design — you name it — for our hun­dreds of thou­sands of vis­i­tors. We at Gov­er­nors Island are com­mit­ted to host­ing any project that gets fund­ing and ful­fills our per­mit require­ments. FIG­MENT cat­alyzes and cel­e­brates an abun­dance of cre­ativ­i­ty and pas­sion, chal­leng­ing artists and our com­mu­ni­ties to find new ways to cre­ate, share, think and dream. FIG­MENT hosts an annu­al sum­mer-long exhi­bi­tion on Gov­er­nors Island that includes an inter­ac­tive sculp­ture gar­den, an artist-designed mini-golf course, and an archi­tec­tur­al pavil­ion co-pre­sent­ed with ENYA and SEAoNY.
