Off Island: West 8 in Times Square (via New York Mag)

We’re solidly in the “New Times Square” camp here. Our institutional passion for pop-up parks, car free spaces, off-the-shelf lawn chairs, and throngs of people predisposes us to love everything about the new pedestrian spaces NYC DOT created along Broadway this year. We also understand the need to move forward from interim solutions and create high-quality public spaces. So we were thrilled to read in this week’s New York Magazine that some really talented lanscape architects are already thinking about what to do with all the new pedestrian space, should the City decide to keep it (it’s a pilot project). Among them is West 8, the Dutch urban design and landscape architecture firm leading team tasked with the design of a new park and other public open spaces on Governors Island.
