Off Island: West 8 in Times Square (via New York Mag)

We’re solid­ly in the New Times Square” camp here. Our insti­tu­tion­al pas­sion for pop-up parks, car free spaces, off-the-shelf lawn chairs, and throngs of peo­ple pre­dis­pos­es us to love every­thing about the new pedes­tri­an spaces NYC DOT cre­at­ed along Broad­way this year. We also under­stand the need to move for­ward from inter­im solu­tions and cre­ate high-qual­i­ty pub­lic spaces. So we were thrilled to read in this week’s New York Mag­a­zine that some real­ly tal­ent­ed lan­scape archi­tects are already think­ing about what to do with all the new pedes­tri­an space, should the City decide to keep it (it’s a pilot project). Among them is West 8, the Dutch urban design and land­scape archi­tec­ture firm lead­ing team tasked with the design of a new park and oth­er pub­lic open spaces on Gov­er­nors Island.
