There are just three days left to come to Governors Island for Free Bike Fridays, art exhibits, programs, mini golf, outdoor sculpture and the great views from Picnic Point.
Don’t miss Storm King’s Mark di Suvero at Governors Island, which features 11 of the artists iconic pieces set against the backdrop of the City skyline, the Statue of Liberty and the Harbor. In addition to all of the great programs we normally have every weekend, the following are this weekend’s special events:
Friday, September 23-Sunday, September 25: Guggenheim Museum presents stillspotting nyc The Guggenheim Museum takes its programming out to the streets of NYC with To a Great City, by composer Arvo Pärt and the architects at Snøhetta. The exhibition features sound installations in five unexpected spaces around Lower Manhattan, from underground chambers to landmark skyscrapers. Saturday, September 24: Vendy Awards, 12PM to 5PM Join hundreds of street food enthusiasts and a team of celebrity judges at the Seventh Annual Vendy Awards, the annual competition for the title of New York City’s Best Street Food Vendor, and a fundraiser for Urban Justice Center’s Street Vendor Project. Tickets get you all-you-can eat access to the city’s finest vendors as they battle to take home the Vendy Cup. Saturday and Sunday, September 24 – 25: Visual Arts Studios, 12PM to 5PM Come explore Governors Islands’ art studios. On this weekend, the visual artists-in-residence open their studios for public viewing. Sunday, September 25: African Film Festival’s Family Day Celebration, 12PM to 5PM The culture and vitality of the African continent will be on display as African Film Festival’s “Family Day Celebration” returns with entertainment and cultural activities for visitors of all ages. The family-friendly event offers free short films showcasing talent of the African Diaspora with fun activities like African dance classes and Double Dutch, storytelling and affordable African cuisine.
