One Weekend Left to Join in the Fun on Governors Island
Oct 7, 2010 5:16 pm
There are just three days left in Governors Island’s public access season but that is still plenty of time for you to experience all there is to do here. Some highlights of this weekend are:
Bike and Roll’s Free Bike Fridays: Your last chance to borrow a bike for free for up to one hour and experience five miles of car-free biking while enjoying some of the best views of the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor you will find in New York City. Saturday: Mean Red Productions brings Oktoberfest to Governors Island. Come out and enjoy craft beer and good food. The event requires a wristband to enter and wristbands will be given out on a first come, first served basis at the Manhattan and Brooklyn ferries. Come early to get your wristband so you can eat and drink! There is also a root beer garden and face painting activities for kids. All weekend long: The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) opens to their artist studios to the public for the last time this year. Also stop by Building 110 to see Floating World, an exhibition by artists from their residency program. The Sculptors Guild exhibit in Building 403 features Guild members’ work which is also installed in several locations around the Island, including at Picnic Point. The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) has work along the Island’s eastern shore, which you can view by walking or by biking around the Island.
