[caption id=“attachment_4444” align=“aligncenter” width=“300” caption=“Last year, 10,000 members of the public came out to the Island to see the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic.”][/caption] The Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic is returning to Governors Island on Sunday, June 5. Last year, more than 10,000 visitors came to the South Island Fields to watch Nacho Figueras’ Black Watch team take to the field. Many visitors dressed in their polo best, including hats, dresses and seersucker suits. There is a charitable component to the match that will benefit Hope Help & Rebuild Haiti, but the public is invited to come and watch the match for free. Champagne lounges and concessions by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group will also be available for the public to enjoy. Polo is a historic use of Governors Island and between the World Wars and polo was often played on the fields here. The Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic has brought this great game back for Island visitors to enjoy.
