Polo returns to Governors Island to help kick off the 2009 season

[/caption] The Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic will return to Governors Island for the second consecutive year, helping to kick off the Island’s public access season on May 30. As it was last year, the match will be free and open to Governors Island visitors. Nacho Figueras, the captain of Black Watch will again return to play in the exhibition match. Between World War I and World War II, polo was often played on Governors Island. Last year’s Manhattan Polo Classic marked the return of this historic use to the Island for the first time in nearly 75 years.
