[caption id=“attachment_3001” align=“aligncenter” width=“225” caption=“Daffodils, tulips, and green buds on trees are the first signs of spring”][/caption] Now that we are finally getting a real taste of spring weather and all of the torrential rain, wind and snow has left us (hopefully), we thought our readers would like to see some images of spring on Governors Island. [caption id=“attachment_3002” align=“aligncenter” width=“300” caption=“The trees surrounding Nolan Park and the Parade Ground are beginning to show new signs of life”][/caption] [caption id=“attachment_3003” align=“aligncenter” width=“300” caption=“Some of the Island’s flowering trees, like this one in front of South Battery, are starting to bloom”][/caption] In just a few weeks, all of the flowers will be out and the trees will be full of leaves, much as they are when the public is able to visit the Island during the warmer summer months. [caption id=“attachment_3005” align=“aligncenter” width=“300” caption=“By the end of April, all of the trees are in bloom, like these ones on Colonels Row”][/caption] The island is beautiful in all seasons, but the arrival of spring reminds us that the public access season is just around the corner. We hope that as the weather gets warmer, New Yorkers will start planning their visits out to the Island. After all, Governors Island opens to the public on June 5, only 60 days from today.
