This Week­end: Army Her­itage Day, RECESS, Punk Island, Trisha Brown Dance rehearsals and so much more

• Inves­ti­gate Army his­to­ry right in your back­yard! This Sat­ur­day, Gov­er­nors Island Nation­al Park Ser­vice hosts a num­ber of fam­i­ly-friend­ly pro­grams along with his­toric weapons demon­stra­tions and music. Check out the new­ly re-opened Cas­tle Williams as well!
• Bring your run­ning shoes and a com­pet­i­tive spir­it and come out to RECESS’s Out­door Bad­minton tour­na­ment, as last year’s defend­ing cham­pi­ons look to stay unde­feat­ed! Or, spread a pic­nic blan­ket on the beau­ti­ful Colonels Row and enjoy spe­cial guest DJs as they spin tunes all day long!
• No need to be an artist for this project! Come out and par­tic­i­pate in DrawNow! with the artists J Car­pen­ter on Sat­ur­day and/​or Velerie Hal­li­er and Andy Deck on Sun­day where you could find your­self rethink­ing the lines of the Man­hat­tan sky­line or cre­at­ing a panoram­ic visu­al­iza­tion of Fort Jay.
• Trisha Brown’s icon­ic dance com­pa­ny will vis­it the island to per­form open rehearsals that offer audi­ences a rare, behind the scenes look at the process lead­ing up to the unveil­ing of the company’s newest per­for­mance, Astral Con­vert­ed, at the Park Avenue Armory.
• North Face Get Out­side on Gov­er­nors Island’s 10K run and Free Kids scram­bles are this week­end! Good luck to all those that are par­tic­i­pat­ing and come out and support.
