Just a few things you can enjoy this weekend on Governors Island:
- Micheal Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra are back ready to bring visitors back in time to the 1920’s with live music and dance, instruction in period dances, picnicking, and games. The event does require tickets which are 15$ if bought in advance. Children under 12 are free. Visit www.dreamlandorchestra.com for more information and tickets. Come join us either Saturday or Sunday 11 – 5 for what is going to be a party for the ages.
- Come out on Saturday for a great walk, a great view and a great cause! It is the 2nd Annual New York Brain Tumor Walk from 7‑noon walk and community day which raises money for the National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS). Last year participants raised more than $300,000 and lets look to best that number this year!
- LMCC’s Art Center located at Building 110 is having an open house on Saturday and Sunday from 12 – 5pm where visitors can view the works and performances (in progress) of the 20 visual artists-in-residence
- Additional to the exhibition Graphic Design: Now in Production, the Cooper Hewitt holds workshops on the island for adults and children alike. Coming up this weekend is Pixel Perfect Pictures a program that explores the concept of pixels and how they come together to make an image. Families and children are welcome to come Saturday and Sunday 11 – 12:30pm & 2 – 3:30pm to take part in designing an image with nothing but sticky dots!
