This Week­end: Jazz Age Lawn Par­ty, The New York Brain Tumor Walk, Open House at LMCC’s Art Center!

Just a few things you can enjoy this week­end on Gov­er­nors Island:
  • Micheal Arenel­la and his Dream­land Orches­tra are back ready to bring vis­i­tors back in time to the 1920’s with live music and dance, instruc­tion in peri­od dances, pic­nick­ing, and games. The event does require tick­ets which are 15$ if bought in advance. Chil­dren under 12 are free. Vis­it www​.dream​lan​dorches​tra​.com for more infor­ma­tion and tick­ets. Come join us either Sat­ur­day or Sun­day 11 – 5 for what is going to be a par­ty for the ages.
  • Come out on Sat­ur­day for a great walk, a great view and a great cause! It is the 2nd Annu­al New York Brain Tumor Walk from 7‑noon walk and com­mu­ni­ty day which rais­es mon­ey for the Nation­al Brain Tumor Soci­ety (NBTS). Last year par­tic­i­pants raised more than $300,000 and lets look to best that num­ber this year!
  • LMCC’s Art Cen­ter locat­ed at Build­ing 110 is hav­ing an open house on Sat­ur­day and Sun­day from 12 – 5pm where vis­i­tors can view the works and per­for­mances (in progress) of the 20 visu­al artists-in-residence
  • Addi­tion­al to the exhi­bi­tion Graph­ic Design: Now in Pro­duc­tion, the Coop­er Hewitt holds work­shops on the island for adults and chil­dren alike. Com­ing up this week­end is Pix­el Per­fect Pic­tures a pro­gram that explores the con­cept of pix­els and how they come togeth­er to make an image. Fam­i­lies and chil­dren are wel­come to come Sat­ur­day and Sun­day 11 – 12:30pm & 2 – 3:30pm to take part in design­ing an image with noth­ing but sticky dots!
