On Saturday, the 4 Heads Art Fair opens, along with Art Share for Heart Share. These new exhibits will feature the work and creativity of more than 100 artists. Ride vintage carousels and carnival rides at Fête Paradiso! Visitors will be delighted by the flying swings, bicycle carousel, pipe organ and French music throughout Nolan Park! 4 Heads Art Fair, Weekends in September, All Day, Building 111, Colonels Row and Nolan ParkIndulge your curiosity by exploring the abandoned military barracks of Governors Island Art Fair, 100 singular rooms of painting, photography, sculpture, installation, video, sound and performance art. Run by artists, for artists, New York’s largest independent exhibition enters its 6th year this fall. Once again GIAF organizers, 4heads, have sifted through a sea of creative proposals from New York and around the world, giving 100 of the best a full room each, in which to wreak havoc as they see fit. 4heads’ programs are tailored to serve the under-resourced, attracting hidden culture and fostering community through collaborative expression. ArtShare for HeartShare, Weekends in September, 11:30am to 5:30pm, Building 15 This exhibition showcases the talents and creative abilities of artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and neurological impairment. In addition to raising awareness of the capabilities of the people with disabilities, our artists continually progress in their art, expressing themselves in beautiful and meaningful ways. The ArtShare for HeartShare program is available to artists in HeartShare Human Services of New York’s developmental disabilities program. Participants in the program are supported in their creative endeavors by volunteer artists in residence and a dedicated committee throughout the year. The program provides professional quality arts materials and culminates in an annual exhibition at the New Century Artists gallery, in Chelsea gallery district of Manhattan. The annual exhibition will be celebrating its 5th year of exhibiting in 2013. This is the second year that ArtShare for HeartShare will be exhibiting on Governors Island. Fête Paradiso, 10:30pm to 6:30pm, Nolan Park For the first time in the US, a spectacular collection of vintage French carnival rides is open to the public here on Governors Island! The Parisian experience is free to visitors both young and old at this magnifique fairground festival complete with French music and cuisine! Other events this weekend include FIGMENT’s artist designed miniature golf, Rising Waters: Photographs of Hurricane Sandy exhibition by the International Center for Photography and the Museum of the City of New York, the New York Historical Society’s exhibit “WWII&NYC” and so much more
