This weekend, sit in Colonels Row and enjoy this season’s second Rite of Summer classical music concert, stop by the Earth Matter Compost Learning Center to learn how to make your own planter, ride a bike, head to the top of Castle Williams and enjoy art exhibits throughout the Island. Governors Island is open every Saturday and Sunday through September 30, and there is so much to do here! Check out our special events for this weekend below! Saturday, August 4: Rite of Summer Classical Music Festival featuring the Jack Quartet, 1 PM and 3 PM, Colonels Row The Rite of Summer Music Festival is back for its second season with a series of exhilarating fun and FREE outdoor concerts. Saturday, August 4: Earth Matter Workshop: Make Your Own Planter ‘Planterpalooza,’ 1 PM, at the Compost Learning Center by Picnic Point Join us at the Compost Learning Center and design your own lightweight “Hypertufa” (artificial stone) planter. If you can make mud pies, you can make your own beautiful, practical work of art using 3 simple ingredients! Your plants will love their new hypertufa home, and you’ll love making it. $5 suggested donation for materials.
