This Week­end on Gov­er­nors Island: August 4 – 52012

This week­end, sit in Colonels Row and enjoy this season’s sec­ond Rite of Sum­mer clas­si­cal music con­cert, stop by the Earth Mat­ter Com­post Learn­ing Cen­ter to learn how to make your own planter, ride a bike, head to the top of Cas­tle Williams and enjoy art exhibits through­out the Island. Gov­er­nors Island is open every Sat­ur­day and Sun­day through Sep­tem­ber 30, and there is so much to do here! Check out our spe­cial events for this week­end below! Sat­ur­day, August 4: Rite of Sum­mer Clas­si­cal Music Fes­ti­val fea­tur­ing the Jack Quar­tet, 1 PM and 3 PM, Colonels Row The Rite of Sum­mer Music Fes­ti­val is back for its sec­ond sea­son with a series of exhil­a­rat­ing fun and FREE out­door con­certs. Co-Direc­tors and /NYC-based pianists Pam Gold­berg & Blair McMillen are thrilled to present the JACK Quar­tet. If you can make mud pies, you can make your own beau­ti­ful, prac­ti­cal work of art using 3 sim­ple ingre­di­ents! Your plants will love their new hyper­t­u­fa home, and you’ll love mak­ing it. $5 sug­gest­ed dona­tion for mate­ri­als. Sat­ur­day and Sun­day, August 4 – 5: Coop­er-Hewitt, Nation­al Design Museum’s Drop-in Fam­i­ly Pro­gram: Tes­sel­la­tions, 11 AM — 3:30 PM, Build­ing 110 Cre­ate pat­terns and watch as they fit togeth­er like a jig­saw puz­zle, becom­ing elab­o­rate illus­tra­tions.
