This Weekend on Governors Island: NY Brewfest, Army Heritage Day and Punk Island

[/caption] There is a lot happening on Governors Island this weekend including a new beer festival, a celebration of the Island’s Army heritage and Make Music New York’s Punk Island. NY Brewfest is a ticketed beer festival that features more than 300 craft beers from 100 breweries. Visitors must have previously purchased a ticket to attend the event in order to sample beer. Governors Island visitors without a ticket are still welcome to head to Colonels Row to listen to live music or purchase food, but they will not be able to drink alcohol. If you don’t have a ticket and you would like to have a beer on the Island, you can try Water Taxi Beach instead. [/caption] Throughout the day on Saturday, the National Park Service will run special programs at Fort Jay and on the Parade Ground to let visitors experience the history of the Island. Visitors will be able to introduce themselves to Revolutionary or Civil War soldiers, take a special walking tour, listen to the US Army Statue of Liberty Band or hear the Melissa Kate Project play. [/caption] On Sunday, Make Music New York will transform Governors Island into Punk Island. 17 stages will be set up across the Island and more than 100 bands will perform throughout the day. And, if you are still looking for something to do, there is always five miles of car-free biking to enjoy, dozens of art exhibits, and artist designed miniature golf!
