This Week­end on Gov­er­nors Island: Get Sporty!

Come out to Gov­er­nors Island for bad­minton, an open water swim­ming race, free art exhibits, minia­ture golf, pic­nics, bike rides, stilt­walk­ing and much more!  Even some of the week­end’s art offer­ings are stren­u­ous, like Phil Soltanof­f’s dance per­for­mance, SIT, STAND, WALK, LIE DOWN…” Phew! Sat­ur­day, July 31: RECESS, Noon A day of out­door bad­minton at Colonels Row. Bring your A game to RECESS 2010. For details, vis­it www​.recess​newyork​.com. Sun­day, August 1: Gov­er­nors Island Swim, 8:30 AM  Cheer on swim­mers — or sign up ahead of time at www​.nyc​swim​.org to join them — as they jump off a fer­ry boat and swim a chal­leng­ing two-mile race around Gov­er­nors Island. The course allows great views of Low­er Man­hat­tan, Jer­sey City, Stat­en Island, Brook­lyn, and, of course, Gov­er­nors Island itself, from the unique, water-lev­el per­spec­tive.  Sat­ur­day and Sun­day: Big Apple Cir­cus Presents Fam­i­ly Fun Fest, Noon ‑3 PM on the Parade Grounds The Big Apple Cir­cus con­ducts free cir­cus skills work­shops now until Labor Day. At these Fam­i­ly Fun Fests,” kids and adults of all ages can try jug­gling, plate-spin­ning, and stilt-walk­ing with our pro­fes­sion­al instruc­tors.
