Tour Governors Island with West 8 and GIPEC

[/caption] Starting this Saturday, June 5th and continuing every Saturday in June, GIPEC is offering free bike and tram tours led by members of the West 8 design team, including landscape architects Mathews Nielsen, as well as Governors Island planners. During the the one-hour long tours visitors will tour the Island and discuss the vision for the design of the new spaces, including the Hills, Liggett Terrace, the Great Promenade, and greens spaces in the Historic District, which are included in West 8’s design of the park and public spaces. Visitors interested in one of the tours must sign up in advance by emailing info-gipec@empire.state.ny.us. All tours are first come, first served. Bike Tours: June 5 and June 19 at 11:15 AM: Bike tour of the future park and public spaces. Tours begin at 11:15 AM in front of the “What’s Happening on Governors Island” exhibit in the top floor of Building 110 on Governors Island. Visitors who are bringing their own bikes can arrive on the 10 AM or 11 AM ferries. Participants who would like to rent a bike on the Island should take the 10 AM ferry to Governors Island to provide time to secure a bike rental at one of Bike and Roll’s two bike rental locations on the Island. Tram Tours: June 12 and June 26 at 10:15 AM: Tram tour of the future park and public spaces. The tour begins at 10:15 AM in front of the “What’s Happening on Governors Island” exhibit in the top floor of Building 110. All participants shouldtake the 10 AM ferry to Governors Island. Additional tours may be offered in July as well. Information on additional tours will be posted on www.govisland.com.
