Governors Island is an extraordinary and unique destination for transformative public art, unforgettable events, cultural and educational programming, and recreational activities for all ages. Each season, Governors Island hosts nearly 100 programs, exhibitions and activities, presented by the Trust for Governors Island, the National Park Service and the Friends of Governors Island, as well as dozens of diverse organizations from across the five boroughs and beyond.
While Governors Island is currently closed to the public until spring, 2021, we invite you to explore highlights from our 2020 season below. There are plenty of digital programs and resources from Governors Island and our community of arts and culture programming organizations to explore on Governors Island at Home. And explore works created by artists who participated in the Governors Island Residency Initiative in 2020, a program hosted by the Trust for Governors Island, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and 19 cultural organizations to provide free workspace for artists and cultural practitioners impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
