Andean Crafting Workshop Series
Earth Matter NY
Weekly on Sunday, starting from Sep 11, 2022, until Oct 2, 2022
Earth Matter NY’s Heritage Beds Project is hosting artist and Peruvian Heritage bed caretaker, Carlos Jiménez Cahua. He is a visual artist and educator who works with indigenous Andean culture. Hewill lead this four-part workshop that explore and incorporate various aspects of Andean culture, with the intention to develop a deeper understanding of this rich, ancient and abiding culture through an experiential and creative learning process.
Over the course of the workshop, Jiménez Cahua will teach the students to work in clay, woodworking and face painting. Finished products include a hand-crafted flower pot (eventually planted with Andean seed), a palanquin (used in Incan culture to carry dignitaries; made out of wood), and the students’ own painted faces (inspired by those seen on Andean ceramics).
This series will be hosted at Earth Matter’s Soil Start Farm at the Governors Island Urban Farm. The workshops are family friendly and all ages are encouraged to sign up. Scholarships are available, please email carlosmos@gmail.com for details.
