Artichoke Ambassadors on Governors Island

Arti­choke Dance Com­pa­ny presents an after­noon of eco-inspired per­for­mances, instal­la­tions and inter­ac­tive work­shops and activ­i­ties on Gov­er­nors Island in col­lab­o­ra­tion with Arti­choke Ambas­sadors, artists who have com­plet­ed the Company’s eco-arts activism train­ing pro­gram that pro­vides skills and strate­gies in merg­ing cre­ative and activists prac­tices from an envi­ron­men­tal jus­tice per­spec­tive. Fea­tur­ing an inter­ac­tive map­ping expe­ri­ence explor­ing the inter­play between emer­gency archi­tec­ture and the com­plex real­i­ties of flood­ing response in New York City, a tree prayer and weav­ing cer­e­mo­ny, move­ment work­shops, and performances. 

Ambas­sador Collaborators:

• Christo­pher Bis­ram is a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary artist with a pri­ma­ry focus in dance. Christo­pher was part of the fall 2022 Ambas­sador cohort.
• Catali­na Cave­light is a mixed media artist who works close­ly with trees. Catali­na was part of the sum­mer 2024 Ambas­sador cohort.
  
• Marieke de Kok­er is an inter­dis­ci­pli­nary artist and opera singer orig­i­nal­ly from South Africa. Marieke was part of the sum­mer 2024 Ambas­sador cohort.
• Angela Koh is a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary artist in medi­ums of cre­ative direc­tion, dance, poet­ry, fash­ion styling, and visu­al arts. Angela was part of the sum­mer 2024 Ambas­sador cohort.
• Este­fa­nia Mom­pean Botias is an archi­tect, urban design­er, and researcher and was part of the sum­mer 2024 Ambas­sador cohort.
• Joanne Ramirez is a first gen­er­a­tion Mex­i­can-Amer­i­can, queer dance artist who prac­tices ecsta­t­ic dance and dance for heal­ing. Jo was part of the sum­mer 2024 Ambas­sador cohort.
• Made­lyn Sher is a per­former and chore­o­g­ra­ph­er who is inter­est­ed in the rhythms of growth and decay. Made­lyn was part of the sum­mer 2022 Ambas­sador cohort.

The Cli­mate Imag­i­nar­i­um is one of the 2024 Gov­er­nors Island Arts Orga­ni­za­tions in Res­i­dence.
