Artichoke Dance Company presents an afternoon of eco-inspired performances, installations and interactive workshops and activities on Governors Island in collaboration with Artichoke Ambassadors, artists who have completed the Company’s eco-arts activism training program that provides skills and strategies in merging creative and activists practices from an environmental justice perspective. Featuring an interactive mapping experience exploring the interplay between emergency architecture and the complex realities of flooding response in New York City, a tree prayer and weaving ceremony, movement workshops, and performances.
Ambassador Collaborators:
- Christopher Bisram is a multidisciplinary artist with a primary focus in dance. Christopher was part of the fall 2022 Ambassador cohort.
- Catalina Cavelight is a mixed media artist who works closely with trees. Catalina was part of the summer 2024 Ambassador cohort.
- Marieke de Koker is an interdisciplinary artist and opera singer originally from South Africa. Marieke was part of the summer 2024 Ambassador cohort.
- Angela Koh is a multidisciplinary artist in mediums of creative direction, dance, poetry, fashion styling, and visual arts. Angela was part of the summer 2024 Ambassador cohort.
- Estefania Mompean Botias is an architect, urban designer, and researcher and was part of the summer 2024 Ambassador cohort.
- Joanne Ramirez is a first generation Mexican-American, queer dance artist who practices ecstatic dance and dance for healing. Jo was part of the summer 2024 Ambassador cohort.
- Madelyn Sher is a performer and choreographer who is interested in the rhythms of growth and decay. Madelyn was part of the summer 2022 Ambassador cohort.
The Climate Imaginarium is one of the 2024 Governors Island Arts Organizations in Residence.
