BANJEE BOOMBOX, an unapologetic QUEER BIPOC musical journey presented by DJ LiKWUiD and DJ Mary Mac in collaboration with ArtCawl Harlem will take place Saturday, August 5, 2023, 1PM-8PM at 406B Colonels Row on Governors Island. Headlining the event is the sensational Queens native girl power lyricist, Dai Burger with performances by GLAAD Award nominee Bry’Nt, OUTMUSIC award winner Baron Artist, Flint, Michigan’s dynamic duo BFF, KennyBoi, vsteeze and more. Banjee Boombox is more than a music festival; it is an encompassing experience that brings together live performances, talented DJs, vibrant vendors, and a showcase of remarkable art exhibits and installations by women and QTBIPOC visual artists. Showcasing exhibitions include the work of DaQuane Cherry, Courtney Minor, Martryce Roach, Theda Sandiford, and Williams Daniels all curated by ArtCrawl Harlem Executive Director Ulysses Williams.
This celebration of music and art is designed to be family-friendly, and all are welcome to join and embrace the spirit of acceptance and inclusivity. Banjee Boombox encourages attendees to “come as you are” and celebrate the contributions that LGBTQAI+ artists have made to hip hop culture since its inception.
Banjee Boombox pays homage to legendary artists such as Mykki Blanco, Angel Haze, Cakes da Killa, Siya, Nicky Da B, Quay Dash and countless others with special guest sets by DJ Taela Naomi, SAINTCHONG joined by hosts Bae Sade´´´´ and Marck Angel. By celebrating, amplifying and gathering together for the voices of womxn, femme and queer identified artists, the festival aims to create a safe space “for us, by us.”
