Participants will create a hand held paper collage using the same technique used by the artist to create the shapes and forms that inspired her mural currently at Hudson Yards.

Blanka Amezkua is a New York-based artist whose multifaceted practice is deeply rooted in the visual languages of folk art and popular culture. Although she received formal training as a painter, her work has long transcended conventional boundaries, integrating materials and methods traditionally associated with domestic and craft-based practices — particularly embroidery, crochet and papel picado. Through these techniques, in collaboration with so many others, she addresses complex issues related to culture, politics, and gender, weaving intimate gestures with broader social concerns.

Bronx Council On the Arts is one of the 2025 Governors Island Arts Organizations in Residence.
