RESCHEDULED TO MARCH 30 DUE TO WEATHER
Seaweed City’s Sugar Kelp has been growing all winter! Join them for kelp monitoring and data collection on March 30, where they’ll be bringing some kelp ashore to measure length and weight.
By growing seaweed, Seaweed City seeks to revitalize urban waters. Seaweed absorbs excess nutrients, prevents harmful algae blooms, and buffers against ocean acidification. Healthy seaweed populations provide food and shelter for myriad marine life, promoting healthier coastal ecosystems and biodiversity.
They’ll be harvesting this cold water species in late April, so come by to see the kelp before they really start to take off!
Seaweed City is a member of the Trust for Governors Island’s Climate Piloting Program.
