Portal House

Artist-led non­prof­it 4heads, best known for its annu­al Gov­er­nors Island and Por­tal Art Fairs, invites vis­i­tors to help cel­e­brate the orga­ni­za­tion’s 15^th anniver­sary year. 4heads con­tin­ues to stay true to their mis­sion of ​“artists for artists” by focus­ing this year’s pro­gram­ming this year on res­i­den­cies, with an empha­sis on artists work­space and time to cre­ate, lead­ing into site-spe­cif­ic instal­la­tions for exhi­bi­tion — begin­ning with Por­tal House. 4heads’ Por­tal House fea­tures eight res­i­dent emerg­ing and mid-career artists whose work reflect a spec­trum of artis­tic genre and media, from paint­ing and draw­ing to sculp­ture and sound — each hav­ing trans­formed their indi­vid­ual rooms, con­nec­tive spaces, and some exte­ri­or out­door spots into inti­mate immer­sive instal­la­tions for exhi­bi­tion. This first ses­sion of two res­i­den­cies is a sum­mer inten­sive with eight women artists that chal­lenges artists who are not nor­mal­ly instal­la­tion focused to cre­ate site-spe­cif­ic envi­ron­ments in our his­toric spaces. The exhi­bi­tion will be pre­sent­ed in Colonels Row Build­ing 408A and on the adja­cent out­door lawns.
