The 2025 Gov­er­nors Island Arts sea­son kicks off May 17, and we’re cel­e­brat­ing with a free, all-ages launch par­ty you won’t want to miss! Be the first to expe­ri­ence a bold mix of pub­lic art and ground­break­ing out­door per­for­mances that con­tin­ues Gov­er­nors Island’s 20-year lega­cy of bring­ing artists, New York­ers, and vis­i­tors from around the world togeth­er for trans­for­ma­tive cul­tur­al expe­ri­ences. No RSVP required.

Fea­tur­ing:

  • Open­ing day of Rest/​Play, an Island-wide group show fea­tur­ing works by Nina Chanel Abney, Lenka Clay­ton & Phillip Andrew Lewis, Arlene Shechet, and Hank Willis Thomas. Guid­ed exhib­it tours 11:45am & 3:15pm
  • Free com­mu­ni­ty per­for­mance of How the Land Lies, a pow­er­ful piece that pairs dance with scrolling LED signs, pre­sent­ed as part of the INTER­VEN­TIONS per­for­mance series, at 2:15pm.
  • Exclu­sive first look at the 2025 Orga­ni­za­tions in Res­i­dence, with spe­cial out­door per­for­mances and activations.
  • Food and drinks onsite from Island ven­dors, DJ sets from Miss Ali­cia with sound by Kar­lala Soundsys­tem, and art­mak­ing activ­i­ties for all ages from Red Hook Art Project.
