Thesmophoria

Ariel Klein­berg is a painter and per­for­mance artist cre­at­ing the­atri­cal instal­la­tions and mytho­log­i­cal inter­ven­tions through­out the city, from the depths of sub­ways to the heights of sky­scrap­ers. She is inter­est­ed in jour­neys to the under­world and trances to make humans divine. Through­out the after­noon, she will be con­duct­ing a series of cre­ative mys­tery rit­u­als inspired by the Thes­mopho­ria, an ancient Greek fes­ti­val cel­e­brat­ed in the fall to hon­or the descent of Perse­phone to the under­world and her return to earth. Using organ­ic mate­ri­als col­lect­ed from the island and painter­ly tools from the stu­dio, they will explore the divine forces of dark­ness and light in the cre­ative process and the cos­mic cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
