Unit.

Unit. is a pre­view of an ongo­ing doc­u­men­tary project about the peo­ple and spaces of the mixed-use high-rise Gold­en Mile com­plex in Sin­ga­pore in the months lead­ing up to its con­ser­va­tion and par­tial rede­vel­op­ment. This is the first time such an approach has been tak­en for a pri­vate­ly-owned, large-scale mod­ern build­ing in Sin­ga­pore. How­ev­er, the approach means that the exist­ing com­mu­ni­ty will be dis­persed, and the lived expe­ri­ence of the build­ing will change. Through pho­tog­ra­phy, videog­ra­phy, and inter­views con­duct­ed between late 2022 to ear­ly 2023, this project seeks to peel back the build­ing façade to reveal the vari­ety of spaces cre­at­ed, nego­ti­at­ed, and lived in by the res­i­dents, ten­ants, and vis­i­tors that have kept the build­ing alive until its next phase of development.
