We Are a Waterfront: Water into Land is a multimedia environmental justice art exhibition born out of the work of activists from Staten Island Urban Center and independent filmmakers of Lost Horizon Films. The exhibition centers snippets of film against visual art that provides neighborhood storytelling from various Staten Island-based artists and activists.

Environmental justice on Staten Island is part of a new understanding in today’s world in the context of the pursuit of climate resilience and adaptation. Riddled with eroding shoreline riprap, contaminated park sites, and brownfields, disadvantaged communities in Staten Island and around the world have work ahead that is long. This exhibition attempts to capture those moments of struggle and promise.

Staten Island Urban Center is one of the 2024 Governors Island Arts Organizations in Residence.
