Dancers Unlimited (DU) is a 501©3 based in Brooklyn and Oahu. Established in 2009, the company centers community engagement as key parts of its creative process to facilitate authentic artistic expression. Their stories address decolonization, cultural celebration, and community building rooted in ancestral and traditional practices. While they are a dance company, their work engages filmmakers, traditional Pacific Island cultural practitioners, culinary professionals and chefs, and environmental activists.

On Governors Island, they’ll bring a summer full of performances, art, creativity and cultural celebrations. The organization’s inaugural NYC artists residence, running from May 17 through July 27, features Dancers Unlimitedʻs immersive repertoire performances and a dynamic group exhibition presenting the works of internationally celebrated artists Dan Taulapapa McMullin and Reuben Paterson, alongside a vibrant lineup of multidisciplinary artists, including Matthew H James, Claire Unabia, Tommy Hite, paulawpARTS, and Sonja John.

Exploring themes of identity, ancestry, and transformation, the exhibition is a bold celebration of Pacific, Indigenous, and diasporic narratives interwoven with experimental media, poetry, and immersive visual storytelling.
