The New York Virtual Volcano Observatory is a virtual volcano observation station in which visitors can experience what it is like to explore a volcanic activity through virtual reality and video installations, volcanic rocks from the Tri-State region, and special interactive events with volcanologists including a wax lava-pouring’ demonstration.

While Eastern North America is not currently volcanically active, visitors will learn about the colossal volcanic eruptions that spanned New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut hundreds of millions of years ago when the Atlantic Ocean was first opening, and how these eruptions left their mark on the geology and landscapes all around us.
