Nolan Park - Nolan Park - Building 14

Pratt, one of the core part­ners of the future New York Cli­mate Exchange along­side SUNY Stony Brook and oth­er part­ners, is open week­ends in Nolan Park. Over the past four years, research, pro­grams, work­shops, and events in their Nolan Park space have anchored the cur­ricu­lum of sev­er­al grad­u­ate pro­grams in the School of Archi­tec­ture, includ­ed work of Pratt Fac­ul­ty at large, and pro­vid­ed the foun­da­tion of the new­ly launched Pratt Cen­ter for Cli­mate Adap­ta­tion — which helps to pro­gram and over­see the house on behalf of the insti­tute at large. Using var­i­ous sites through­out the Island, stu­dents and fac­ul­ty are active­ly study­ing issues of cli­mate adap­ta­tion focused on the built/​natural envi­ron­ment through the devel­op­ment of pro­to­types that have appli­ca­tion beyond the Island itself. The house allows the stu­dents and fac­ul­ty of Pratt to share work with the pub­lic and use the site and its sur­round­ings as a liv­ing lab­o­ra­to­ry of design research.

Nolan Park 14 opens in three stages through­out the Indoor Pro­gram­ming Sea­son. Cur­rent­ly on dis­play is the first of three stages includ­ing two exhi­bi­tions in the cen­ter and upper por­tions of the house. Com­ing soon are two anchor­ing exhi­bi­tions in the flank­ing left and right gal­leries. The last and final stage in the Fall will see a rota­tion of the cen­ter and upper por­tions of the house. The exhi­bi­tions all focus on cli­mate adap­ta­tion, relate to the degree offer­ing pro­grams and research through­out the Insti­tute, and show­case part­ners and col­lab­o­ra­tors in New York City and beyond.
