Learn to kayak on Gov­er­nors Island! Down­town Boathouse offers free sit-on-top kayaks for pub­lic use at Pier 101 every Sat­ur­day through the end of Sep­tem­ber. Boathouse staff gives free instruc­tion and pro­vides all nec­es­sary safe­ty equip­ment. Walk-ups only, no reser­va­tions required. 

Kayak­ing on Gov­er­nors Island pro­vides an oppor­tu­ni­ty to cre­ate a per­son­al con­nec­tion with the water­front, regard­less of age, income or loca­tion, and it also serves to edu­cate the pub­lic on how far we all have come in clean­ing up New York Harbor.
