Lavender Field

The Laven­der Field on Gov­er­nors Island is Earth Matter’s heal­ing space for the com­mu­ni­ty, pol­li­na­tors, and the Earth. Launched in 2017, the only laven­der field in NYC pro­vides vis­i­tors with a peace­ful, deli­cious­ly fra­grant oasis where they can set aside the rush­es of city life.

Every June the field blooms into an ombré wave of col­or — deep pur­ple, blue, laven­der, sil­very grey — but this serene spot has unique beau­ty in every sea­son. Over 550 hun­dred plants of 4 dif­fer­ent vari­eties, grown with­out chem­i­cals or pes­ti­cides, main­tained by Earth Mat­ter vol­un­teers, cre­ate fan­tas­tic pho­to oppor­tu­ni­ties and a total sen­so­ry expe­ri­ence for the whole fam­i­ly. Relax, enjoy a pic­nic lunch, sit back and smell the flowers.
