Climate Field Trips

Embark on an immersive journey of climate action with Governors Island’s new Grade 6 school field trip program, free to public schools and presented by the Trust for Governors Island with Beam Center and Turnstile Tours. The multi-stop, outdoor Climate Action Quest features hands-on activities that showcase climate solutions that can be brought back to NYC classrooms and communities. Students will be able to explore many themes related to climate, including climate science, greenhouse gas emissions, electrifying transportation, living shorelines, waste to resource, sustainable materials, and more.

  • Climate Literacy: Build students’ capacity to analyze localized climate challenges, apply scientific vocabulary, and identify actionable solutions in their schools and communities.
  • Career Pathways: Offer exposure to the broad range of careers in the climate and sustainability fields.
  • Continued Engagement: Return for hands-on learning opportunities with Billion Oyster Project, GrowNYC, and more.

Trips are currently available for select dates during the 2026 – 27 school year for Grade 6 classrooms in New York City public schools. If you’re an educator and would like to inquire about booking a trip, click here.

The Trust’s climate programs are made possible with the generous support of Amazon, Con Edison, Donald A. Pels Charitable Trust, and the New York Community Trust.
