Western Promenade - Western Promenade

Take your next vis­it to new heights (lit­er­al­ly) with Gov­er­nors Island’s new Com­mu­ni­ty Climb­ing Boul­der! Locat­ed on West­ern Prom­e­nade, the boul­der is a joint effort between Trust for Pub­lic Land, Trust for Gov­er­nors Island and The North Face, and it was designed in col­lab­o­ra­tion with youth from Beam Cen­ter & play:groundNYC on Gov­er­nors Island. There are sev­er­al dif­fer­ent climb­ing routes post­ed on site with vary­ing degrees of dif­fi­cul­ty, and the boul­der is free to use dur­ing all pub­lic hours on the Island.

The climb­ing boul­der was installed in Spring 2022 with con­tri­bu­tions from JCC Con­struc­tion, Math­ews Nielsen Land­scape Archi­tects, and Robert Sil­man Asso­ciates Struc­tur­al Engineers.
