Calling all community scientists: Governors Island is a partner in the New York City’s 8th City Nature Challenge! In both the paved and green spaces of our city, including throughout Governors Island, many species survive and thrive. All New Yorkers are invited to help show off our city’s biodiversity by connecting with nature and helping make as many wildlife observations as we can.

To participate, download the iNaturalist app to your mobile device. Then, between April 26 – 29, use the app to upload photos of organisms you observe, and the iNaturalist community will help you identify them. It’s as simple as that! Not sure where to start? Download Governors Island Natures spring scavenger hunt (click here), hop on the ferry, and see how many different plants, animals, and insects you can find!
