Governors Island offers a wide range of development opportunities, including adaptive reuse of historic buildings and new construction on development zones. Permitted uses include education, office, hospitality, cultural, non-profit, convening space, restaurants and more.
Space within existing buildings and spaces are made available through public Request for Proposals (RFP) processes, or by contacting the Trust’s real estate team. Available buildings are listed below.
33 acres on the Island’s southern end were designated for future construction as part of the Island’s Park and Public Space Master Plan, released in 2010, including the 6.5 acre Western Development Zone and 26.5 Eastern Development Zone. These areas are subject to future rezoning, and will be made available through a future public Request for Proposals process. To inquire about development opportunities on Governors Island, email our Real Estate team by clicking here.
